HOW TO MEASURE

The measurement forms, available for printing1 in this website, are designed to make the measuring of your yacht as simple as possible.

They show in clear diagrams the exact measurements which are required for ordering sails.

Please print the relevant PDF measurement sheets and take them with you to your yacht.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE “PDF” MEASUREMENT SHEETS ARE IN A FORMAT ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR DOWNLOADING AND PRINTING AND MAY TAKE SOME MINUTES TO DOWNLOAD, DEPENDING ON THE SPEED OF YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION.
(The other measurement sheets are the same but are in a format for displaying in internet and open more quickly than the PDF pages.)

MEASUREMENTS

If you have never measured a sail before, now could be a good time to do it ! Even if you might not need a new sail at present, it is a good idea to have this information as a back-up in your boat papers, it can be very useful for the future if you have the exact measurements of your sails in your record.

Firstly print out our measurements sheets from the PDF printing sheets. Take these measurement sheets (one for each sail) to the boat and make the measurements on board.

We have prepared detailed MEASUREMENT SHEETS which should make it easy for you to take the measurements, step-by-step, on your own yacht. We supply you with detailed diagrams in the Measurement Sheets which make it quite clear which measurements are required and it is a logical process - even if it looks a bit complicated at first !

We do not recommend that you use the measurements from your old (tired !) sails. However, it is always good if you check the new measurements taken to compare them with the old sail stretched out under tension.

For the longer measurements (e.g. I and P and luff) we recommend that you buy, or borrow, a long metal measuring tape so as to be able to take these measurements exactly. Please do NOT use a rope and then measure it.

ONLINE MEASUREMENT SHEET – STORAGE OF DATA

When you have filled-in measurement information in the online form, this information will be stored on our server for a 30 day period.

This enables you, for example when you find that you want to take an extra measurement on board, to close the online measurement form and, within a period of 30 days, you can return to your measurement form, which still contains your information, and you can continue, can make changes and/or can add further information.
When you re-open the formula, the information filled-in earlier is shown. You can change any input data and/or add new data.

When you have completed the online formula and sent it to us, you will receive an e-mail with a link which allows you to see your completed form and to print it.
It is not possible at this stage to make any more changes to the data supplied.

If you notice an error at this stage, please contact us as soon as possible.

We are here to help you should you have any questions about measuring and you can also send us extra diagrams should you feel that something on your yacht is not adequately covered in the measurement sheet2 requirements.

Remark:

1 To print the measurement sheets you will require Acrobat Reader. This programme is available free of charge from www.adobe.com.)

2 The Measurement Sheets for filling in and sending directly from this Website were tested and found to function only with Internet Explorer 5.5 and Firefox 10.0 and their more recent versions.
